Hazards of Bank Sales Part 2

There is another type of hazard. When you become a Manager, be it a Team Manager, Branch Manager or General Manager, actually this applies not only in bank sales, but almost everywhere else (every industry), members of the opposite sex will want to get close to you.
As you have the position and power to decide on things and even decide on who can stay on the job and who has to leave, people (most of the time, the opposite sex) will try to get close to you in order to receive favours in return.
Say you are a male manager, some of the more cunning bank sales girls (be it PFCs, RMs etc) will want to get close to you, how close? It depends on how close the manager wants the relationship to be? He calls the shots as he is the boss. These cunning girls will want to be close to you and they can work less, stay on the job, even get a promotion, and be on the receiving end of double standard treatment (of course their's would be the positive side of the double standards).
An example would be say the sales team does badly this quarter and the Team Manager wants all team members to stay back late to work or to go back to work on weekends. If this girl is doing ok with her sales, say she is half way to her sales target, then the Team Manager will announce to everyone that anyone who is less than halfway to his/her sales target will have to work late/weekends, so she gets to leave early and do not have to work weekends. If she is not doing well in the next quarter, then the rule will be for whoever who did not achieve his/her sales target the previous month, who will have to work more etc etc.
In a nutshell, the rules at the workplace will always be adjusted in such a way that suit her.
Bad, isn't it? Guys and Girls, please do not ever even think of doing such a thing, if you get entangled in such a mess, chances are, you will get special privileges at first, but as time goes by, you will realise that it is a vicious cycle that never ends.
The best way to work is to be sincere, honest, and don't depend on all these stupid connections, but rather on pure sincere hard work.

Hazards of Bank Sales Job

All jobs bring with it joy and happiness, while also bringing certain negatives and irritations. Well, there are many perks that come with a banking sales career but the downsides are enormous too.
Let me elaborate a little.
For ladies, you might get male customers who are mainly thinking of getting to know you better rather than in the products you offer. They may ask you a lot of personal questions in the branch or if you are a mobile banker, worse still, at their offices or even their houses if you are a mobile mortgage bank sales staff.
Some of these male customers or potential customers will want you to talk with them for hours and may even request for you to have a meal with them. They will most probably pay for the meal and drinks, but you can probably guess what they are after, especially if you are an attractive lady.

Banking as a Servant to the Economy, never its Master

Well said. Please read this article. That's the way banking should be. Good old old-fashion banking.

Luxury Cars

Hi Everyone, today's topic will be a slight deviation from banking issues. Well, it's a topic that's quite close to banking (if you think a little deeper) because rich bankers drive them too.
There are many people in Singapore who drive luxury cars such as Mercedes, BMW, Volvo etc. What I would like to say is that there are many bank customers as well as rich bankers who drive one or even two.
1. How many of you out there dream of driving one? 2. And what is your impression of a person who drives a luxury car?

Housing Prices, Rental Prices, Oil Prices, Car Prices (COE Prices)

All the above prices have gone southwards since end of last year. The financial crises has impacted practically everything around us. We are indeed in a economic slowdown now, however, some people, who have ready cash in hand, are taking advantage of the lower prices now to buy cars and apartments, while others are having headaches paying the basic utility bill because they have either been laid off or are doing badly in their businesses.

Cap on U.S. Bankers' Salaries

Nowadays bankers do not get to earn the large annual salaries that they used to earn in the past. Bankers in the U.S. are now being watched over the amount of bonuses that they receive. Have a read at this article.

Unreasonable Bank Customers

Usually, a typical bank customer would be normal, rather polite and reasonable, but there are times when the bank sales staff have to face crazy demands from unreasonable customers.
These customers may show their temper at the slightest irritation, or pull a long face when things are not going in their favour, or use certain words that can 'cut' you up inside when they want to 'play games' with you and enjoy better deals, or keep emphasising that they have 'lots' of money and do not necessarily need to bank with you when trying to bargain.
These are customers that you will have to be prepared to face, albeit they do not form the bulk of customers. Thank God for that!

Dynamics of Bank Sales

Whether or not you are a PFC, RM, Private Banker etc, as long as you are in bank sales, you will need to have contacts to be able to be successful.
You will need to know who to contact, how to get the contacts, and who or what can help you to get those contacts that will lead to more sales for you.
You cannot rely on the normal channels (eg walk-ins, call-ins, in-house database etc) to achieve your sales targets, you will have to be more pro-active and search for these contacts, and/or you could also rely a bit on referrals too.

Lazy Bank Sales Staff

There are some Bank Sales Staff who are there only to get to know the opposite sex, have fun, laugh and talk rubbish whenever the boss is not around. When is the boss around, well, the answer is probably only 50-60% of the time, as he/she has to attend meetings and do other 'important' things.
So these young bank sales staff (depending on which branch or sales channel, some do not have the chance even when the boss is away) will 'snake' around when the boss is away. They would do nothing and idle their time away, instead of searching for potential customers who they can contact and strike up good deals.
Personally, I feel that if you are not interested in sales and are not self-motivated and self-disciplined and your primary focus is to have fun all the time, then forget about working in a sales environment. You are wasting your own time, affecting the others who really want to work, and giving your boss a hard time.

Slightly Away From Bank Issues

Please read. Something about our 5-day work week. When I first started working in the late 90s, Saturdays were a normal working day. Some people had to stay till 1pm and I remembered I stayed in office till 2.40pm once to work, and there were some other days when I had to be in charge of certain projects or 'ECAs' and that took me till 7pm on a Saturday.
I am not sure how people feel about this issue (of working 5 or 5 and half days week).
